AI Engineer, Agents and Strategies

About the role

Ask Alpha is a tool-using agent with access to a user’s portfolio, live market data, deep research, prediction-market odds, news and stock fundamentals. It proposes trades and strategies; the user confirms every action and the model never executes anything. Behind it sits a strategy engine with its own DSL, where an AI block can decide buy, sell or hold on a schedule under a budget, with backtests and paper trading before anything goes live.

This role owns the quality, cost and safety of that system: the tools, the prompts, the evals, and the research pipeline that turns twenty lookups into one answer with sources.

What you will do

• Design and build tools the agent calls: typed, bounded, isolated per user, with structured outputs the app renders as cards.
• Build the eval harness and run it before every prompt or model change: task suites, regression sets, latency and cost budgets.
• Own latency and spend: prompt caching, context shaping, model routing, the budget rules that keep a scheduled analyst affordable.
• Grow the strategy DSL’s AI blocks and templates, and the backtest and paper-trade loop that gates them.
• Build research: multi-step retrieval over market data, odds, news and filings, with citations the user can check.
• Keep the threat model honest: user isolation by construction, no channel from model output to execution, prompt-injection defences you have tested.

What we are looking for

• You have shipped an LLM product to real users and iterated on it with evals, not vibes.
• Strong backend engineering. Our services are Rust; you should be able to work in a Rust codebase or become able quickly, with Python for research and evals.
• Grounded understanding of markets: what a good analyst would actually check before calling a trade.
• Security mindset. You assume the model will be lied to and design so that it does not matter.
• Clear writing. Tool descriptions and prompts are product copy.

Nice to have

• Rust in production.
• Trading, quant research or backtesting systems.
• Retrieval and search systems, structured extraction, agent frameworks.
• Voice interfaces or realtime models.
