Senior Rust Engineer, Trading Systems
EngineeringNew York CityFull time
Own the engine that turns a one-line ask into a signed, settled trade across every chain we support.
About the role
Every trade in Alpha is a plan: a list of steps produced by a planner, executed by a dumb executor, and re-planned when the world changes. Gas gets bootstrapped from wherever the user has value, tokens hop chains, the sell that pays for the buy lands first, and the user confirms once. This role owns that engine.
You will work in the trading service: the orchestrator, the provider walk that shops a quote across Relay, NEAR Intents, 0x, Symbiosis, Jupiter, DFlow, swap.coffee, SunSwap, Uniswap and Astralane, and the chain layers under it (Solana, forty EVM chains, Bitcoin, TON, Tron and Hyperliquid). New chains ship the day they launch, which means the abstractions have to hold.
What you will do
- Own the transaction orchestrator: plan production, step execution, reactive re-planning, settlement tracking and refunds when a leg fails halfway.
- Add rails and chains. A new chain should be a registry row and one chain implementation, not a hunt through the codebase.
- Measure execution quality and defend the numbers: quote-to-fill latency, realized slippage against the quote, failed-step rate, per-rail fill rate.
- Design the idempotency, retry and lease semantics that let two instances run without firing a side effect twice.
- Debug live: a stuck bridge, a dropped Solana transaction, an EVM approval race, a UTXO that never confirmed.
- Write the docs and the decisions log as you go. Our architecture lives in the repo, not in someone’s head.
What we are looking for
- Production experience with async Rust and tokio in services that run continuously under load.
- Deep understanding of at least one chain’s transaction model (Solana or EVM), and the appetite to learn the rest.
- Distributed-systems judgment: idempotency keys, exactly-once side effects, partial failure, what to do when the provider you paid is down.
- Comfort debugging a live system with money in flight, calmly and with evidence.
- High ownership. You will ship to production most days.
Nice to have
- Solana internals: priority fees, versioned transactions, address lookup tables, Jito bundles, Geyser streams.
- EVM internals: gas estimation, receipts and traces, permit and approval flows, account abstraction.
- Bitcoin PSBTs and coin selection, TON cells and messages, or Tron resources.
- Perps venues, order books and funding mechanics.
- gRPC and protobuf across a service mesh.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every line above. Strong people rarely tick every box.
How to apply
Email us at hi@tryalpha.xyz with “Senior Rust Engineer, Trading Systems” in the subject line, a link to work you are proud of, and a few lines on the hardest system you have shipped and what broke. No cover letter, no form. A real person reads every application.
