Senior iOS Engineer
EngineeringNew York CityFull time
Build the trading terminal itself: native SwiftUI, live streams, charts that keep up, one design system.
About the role
Alpha is an iPhone app first. It is written in SwiftUI on the newest iOS, with one design system that every screen draws from, a native chart engine, live portfolio and price streams, a trade sheet that handles spot, perps and multi-step routes, and an AI surface that lives in the top bar.
You will own screens end to end, from the ViewModel to the last pixel, and you will hold the bar on feel: no layout shifts, no phantom spinners, sixty frames while a chart is live, and empty states that explain instead of apologise.
What you will do
- Own features end to end: trade sheet, portfolio, token pages, strategies, research surfaces, onboarding.
- Keep the design system honest. New UI reaches for the existing type scale, surfaces and components; overarching changes land as system changes, not per-screen forks.
- Make streams feel instant: SSE and gRPC clients, merge logic that never shows stale money, background-to-foreground recovery.
- Profile and fix: chart rendering, scroll performance, memory under long sessions, cold launch.
- Write tests that catch the regressions that matter and keep the token ratchet moving in the right direction.
- Ship through TestFlight and the App Store with the founder, including review conversations.
What we are looking for
- Five or more years building iOS apps, with recent, deep SwiftUI and Swift concurrency experience.
- At least one consumer app you shipped that people used every day, and opinions about why it felt good.
- Fluency with networking on the client: REST, gRPC, server-sent events, retries and reconnection.
- A designer’s eye. You notice a two-point misalignment and you fix it before anyone asks.
- You use Decimal for money and know why.
Nice to have
- Custom drawing with Canvas, Core Animation or Metal; charting engines.
- Trading or finance apps, or any app where a number being wrong costs someone money.
- Liquid Glass and the latest platform APIs.
- Accessibility, localisation and bidirectional text.
- XCTest and UI test automation in CI.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every line above. Strong people rarely tick every box.
How to apply
Email us at hi@tryalpha.xyz with “Senior iOS Engineer” in the subject line, a link to work you are proud of, and a few lines on the hardest system you have shipped and what broke. No cover letter, no form. A real person reads every application.
